As we mark Black History Month UK, we take this opportunity to celebrate the remarkable contributions of Black entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of business, creativity, and community across the UK. This month is not only a time to reflect on history — it’s also a moment to spotlight the trailblazers who are building a more inclusive and innovative future.
Honouring Black Excellence in Business
Across the UK, Black entrepreneurs are leading the way in sectors from technology and fashion to social impact and food innovation. Their stories of resilience, creativity, and leadership inspire us to keep pushing boundaries and championing equality.
Here are a few incredible UK-based Black-owned businesses and partners whose work inspires us at CAP:
Jamii – A discovery platform and discount card dedicated to supporting Black-owned brands in the UK, founded by Khalia Ismain. Jamii connects conscious consumers with hundreds of small businesses and helps them grow sustainably.
Tiwani Heritage – A London-based contemporary art gallery showcasing artists from Africa and the African diaspora. Founded by Maria Varnava, it has become a vital cultural space promoting underrepresented voices.
Afrocenchix – Created by best friends Rachael Twumasi-Corson and Joycelyn Mate, this award-winning haircare brand has redefined the natural hair industry with ethically sourced, science-backed products.
Springfield Consultancy – A social enterprise empowering local communities through business support, training, and leadership programmes that promote equality in enterprise.
More local to us here in Kent, we have a number of social enterprises that focus on racial justice, wellbeing, mentoring and supporting Black communities, including:
Black Mums Kent C.I.C. - Supporting Black mothers — offering connection, collaboration, community; address representation and provide inclusive safe spaces.
Karibu Community Action Kent (KCAK) - A community organisation founded by Africans in Kent. They work on health & wellbeing, cultural heritage, reducing inequalities, advocacy, and providing workshops etc.
Helps for All CIC - Supports Black ethnic groups in Kent (and Sussex) affected by issues like homelessness, poverty, hunger, loneliness.
UYG Social Enterprise – “Unleash Yourself with Gladness CIC” Offers personal development workshops, mentoring, counselling, support for trauma, women-focused events, etc.
These businesses are not only thriving — they’re also building legacies that inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Diversity as a Core Value
At CAP Enterprise, we believe diversity isn’t just something to celebrate once a year — it’s a value that drives innovation, creativity, and community impact all year round. By embracing diverse perspectives, we strengthen our organisation and the communities we serve. We actively work with partners, suppliers, and collaborators who reflect the vibrant diversity of the UK and share our commitment to inclusion and empowerment.
Building a Future Together
Black History Month reminds us that representation matters — not only in our history books but in boardrooms, start-ups, and leadership roles across every industry. As we continue to grow, we’re committed to creating spaces where every entrepreneur, no matter their background, has the opportunity to succeed.
